Centro de Esperanza has 25 small family sleeping rooms in addition to small dormitories for single men and women. In addition to serving three meals a day, we provide clothing, hygiene supplies, basic health care, and host a variety of meaningful activities. We are able to shelter as many as 150 people.

Centro de Esperanza staff work to provide objective information on the requirements and process for seeking asylum. Migrant guests have access to computers, the internet, smart phones, and a photo booth to prepare and submit necessary documents. Guest speakers include asylum attorneys. Since opening, Centro de Esperanza has helped nearly 800 migrants enter the United States as part of the asylum process.

Shelters for Hope schedules a monthly open house and tour of Centro de Esperanza and encourages people to visit in order to better understand first-hand the realities of the immigration experience. When possible, guests are also welcomed at other times, but by appointment only. All visitors must agree not to take photographs.

This holiday season, migrant guests created a gingerbread house themed light show on the exterior of Centro de Esperanza for the town of Sonoyta to enjoy. Every evening many local cars drove by to enjoy the show, the best in town!
Candlemaking is a new skill for guests. Classes taught professionally by our accountant, Lupita (a former candle artisan), help residents earn money in our new Entrepreneurial Program.
